Chevy Rubbing DTC

In “rare” cases, some owners of 2014 Chevy Equinox vehicles equipped with a 3.6L engine may comment that the MIL is on, accompanied by poor performance and reduced power. Technicians may find DTC P0641 stored.

This may be caused by one of the wires in the ECM harness being chafed or cut. Due to the cause of the condition, and the positions of the wires in the harness, it is unlikely that more than one circuit will be affected.

The condition may be caused by the ECM wiring harness rubbing on the ECM bracket.

Inspect the ECM harness (off of the Engine Control Module X1 connector) for any damage and repair any wires found. After the repair is completed, wrap Woven Polyester Electrical Tape (PET) or equivalent anti-abrasion tape around the wires on the harness.

Note the location of the ECM wire harness potential contact area.

Rubbing/chafing may exist at the ECM bracket.
