Tell Auto Care Association How Chinese Tariffs Would Affect Your Business

The Auto Care Association is asking members how the Trump Administration’s proposal to levy an additional 25% tariff on certain goods imported from China will affect their businesses.

On April 3, 2018, the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) released a proposed list of goods imported from China that would be subject to an additional duty of 25 percent pursuant to its Section 301 investigation on China’s unfair trade practices related to the forced transfer of U.S. technology and intellectual property.

The proposed list, covering approximately 1,300 products at the 8-digit HTS tariff level, would be imposed on approximately $50 billion worth of Chinese imports.

USTR is conducting a full review of the proposed action through a comment and hearing process. After completion of the full review, USTR will issue a final notice on the products subject to the tariffs. There are a number of auto parts on the tariff list, including tubes/pipes/hoses, tires, nuts and springs, metal parts, pump parts, catalytic converters, bearings and electrical components. A list of auto parts based on HTS codes included on the tariff list can be found on the Auto Care Association resource page.

The Auto Care Association is seeking input on how our members would be impacted by the proposed action. The association is asking members to contact Paul Fiore and Angela Chiang by April 27, 2018 if they would like to include information in the submission to USTR regarding any of the products listed on the proposed tariff list.

Requests to appear at the hearing are due April 23, 2018. Written comments are due May 11, 2018.

For more information on the proposed tariff list, review process and a template to submit your own comments, please go to the Auto Care Association’s resource page. Please contact Paul Fiore and Angela Chiang if you have any additional questions.
