Volvo advises that the front suspension on 2010 models S80, V70 and XC70 may feature a harsh ride in cold climates when driving on uneven roads or bumps when the ambient temperature is 5 degrees Fahrenheit or colder.
The root cause of the concern is the new front spring aid (bump stop rubber) that was introduced in production from structure week 2009w22. This spring aid is harder than previous versions, and becomes harder at lower temperatures.
The fix involves changing the rubber bumpers with Volvo part number 31255536. Volvo advises against changing shock absorbers, as this will not remedy the problem.
