Stuck VW engine start button

This applies to the 2011 VW Jetta equipped with keyless entry. The button for the engine start-stop switch E378 may be stuck. Deviation in switch dimensions, along with molding flash on the storage box may be incorrect, or cable routing may be incorrect.

If the switch assembly requires replacement, the new switch is available as P/N 5C7 959 839A.

Remove the storage box/ashtray and check cable routing. The wire loom must not be trapped between the center console and the storage box. Also check the wiring loom for twist. Remove the switch for the starting system. Check the storage box for molding flash, and carefully remove any flashing.

Check the wire loom for entrapment routing and for twist.

With the switch removed, check for molding flash. Remove any flash as needed using a fine file or sharp razor.
