Dodge clunks/bumps when braking

This TSB applies to 2011-2012 Dodge Durango and Grand Cherokee vehicles. A clunk and/or bump may be felt through the steering wheel under moderate braking or when driving over rough roads.

The cause may be traced to the steering intermediate shaft. The new lower intermediate shaft must feature a green dot on the assembly, near or on the label. If a green dot cannot be found, the intermediate shaft must be replaced. This requires P/N 05057539AD.

Road test the vehicle over rough roads and apply moderate braking. If a shudder and/or bump is felt through the steering wheel, remove and replace the lower steering intermediate shaft. The replacement labor is estimated at 0.5 hr.

Look for the green dot, which should be on or near the shaft’s identification label.
