Wiping the Kia rear glass

Kia Soul vehicles built between 1-1-09 and 6-30-09 may experience a rear wiper squeal noise when operating. This is due to insufficient grease inside the rear wiper motor shaft grommet.

The repair requires the application of Multemp AC-J automotive grease or 3M Silicone Paste P/N 08946 to the inner surface of the rear wiper motor shaft and grommet.

Mark the wiper arm location using a paint pen and remove the rear wiper arm assembly to gain access to the rubber grommet (lift the rear wiper retaining nut cover to gain access to the retaining nut).

Press the top of the grommet with two fingers to make the opening larger as shown in the photo, and apply the appropriate grease to the inner surface area of the grommet through the opening (see arrow).

Reinstall the wiper arm, aligning it with the paint mark.

Apply grease through the opening of the grommet (squeeze the grommet to create grease access).
