Reflashing tips and tricks: Part III

In this third and final part of "Reflashing tips and tips" we cover BMWs and Mercedes reflashing. For Hyundais and Hondas, see Part I, and for GMs and Toyotas, see Part II.

Reflashing with the Autologic.

Reflashing with an Autologic is often preferable over that of the factory scan tool, because it is so easy to use. There is a Youtube channel devoted to it (Youtube.com/ILoveAutologic), but if you do not have a computer handy right now, let’s discuss a few highlights.

The most common manufacturer that people use the Autologic to program is BMW, because with the factory scan tool and the J2534 program, BMW requires you to wait hours for every module to be reprogrammed. The Autologic allows you to reflash just the module you need to. Here’s how it is done:

1. Click “CIP” on the screen (see BMW Figure 1) , which stands for “Coding, Individualization, Programming,” in the main menu.

2. (see BMW Figure 2: The Autologic confirms there is a CIP update for this 2005 645CI. Simply click continue to the bottom right.

3. (see BMW Figures 3, 4 and 5): Here we simply confirm the date, that we have the vehicle KOEO, and the right VIN for the vehicle.

4. (see BMW Figure 6): The Autologic will take a few minutes to figure out which modules require updates.]

5. (see BMW Figure 7): Finally, you enter the screen where the tool lets you emulate the factory scan tool’s ability to reflash every single module in a multi-hour process (under initial report), or do reflashes that are specific to the Autologic. This includes reprogramming individual modules, changing software fore retrofits (like adding a turbo), and performance tunes.

It is always important when using the Autologic to update the software for the manufacturer you are subscribed to daily. Otherwise, the tool might not know there has been a software update just released for the vehicle. Autologic tends to have substantial updates to their tool available daily.
