Hyundai gasketing tip

This TSB provides important service information to properly seal the cylinder head cover when any service has been performed that requires cover removal. Applicable vehicles include 2007-20120 Hyundai Santa Fe 3.3/3.5L, 2007-2012 Veracruz, 2006-2011 Azera, 2006-2010 Sonata 3.3L and 2006-2008 Entourage.

  1. Prior to any reassembly work, thoroughly clean the top of the cylinder head and the timing chain cover at the mating surface. Use a gasket scraper to remove any old RTV liquid gasket residue where the timing chain cover meets the cylinder head at the deck.
  2. Apply Hyundai Gray RTV P/N 00232-19039 or equivalent sealant in the two upper spots where the timing chain cover meets the cylinder head. Apply a sufficient bead of RTV sealant at a width of approximately 2.5mm. Within 5 minutes after applying the RTV sealant, install the cylinder head cover, using a new cylinder head cover gasket.

Note: Wait at least 30 minutes before adding oil and/or starting the engine.

Note the location where the timing chain cover meets the cylinder head. Both spots require the specified RTV sealant prior to installing the new gasket and the cylinder head cover.
