A MIL on with DTCs P2096, P2097, P2098 and P2099 may be present on a 2011 Ram 2500 truck equipped with the 5.7L gas engine.

The engine seems to lack power at high engine rpm. A shudder or shake condition at wide open throttle stab during a downshift may be present. The EVAP Diagnostic Enhancement routine will be disabled while the vehicle is in decel fuel shut off mode (3.7 and 4.7L engines only). An audible knock may be heard on WOT launches (5.7L only).

High engine rpm is needed before the transmission will upshift from 3rd to 4th (5.7 an 4.7L). Harsh 1st to 2nd gear upshifts may be present as well (5.7 and 4.7L). An unexpected or busy downshift while coasting between 45 mph to 48 mph may be felt as well (5.7L only).

Using a scan tool (wiTECH) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify that no other DTCs are set. If DTCs are present other than those listed here, record and make needed repairs before proceeding with this bulletin.

Reflashing the TCM is required. Install a battery charger to ensure that battery voltage does not drop below 13.2 volts. Do not allow the charging voltage to climb above 13.2 volts during the reflash process.

  1. Reprogram the TCM with the latest software. Help using the wiTECH diagnostic application for flashing an ECU is available by selecting “Help,” then “Help Contents” at the top of the wiTECH application window. After TCM reprogramming, clear any DTCs that may have been set in other modules as a result of reprogramming. The wiTECH application will automatically present all DTCs after the flash and allow the tech to clear them.
  2. Type the necessary information on an Authorized Modification Label and attach it near the VECI label.
