Baffling Toyota oil fill caution

When adding engine oil to various Toyota vehicles, care must be taken to prevent damaging the oil fill baffle in the cylinder head cover. The baffle is designed only to deflect oil and should not be used to support the weight of oil fill devices. Rough treatment of the baffle can place unnecessary stress, resulting in baffle damage.

Applicable vehicles include 2004-2009 4Runner, Avalon, Camry, Camry HV, Celica, Corolla, Echo, FJ Cruiser, Hiace, Highlander, Highlander HV, Hilux, Land Cruiser, MR2, Spyder, Matrix, Prius, RAV4, Sequoia, Tacoma, Tundra and Yaris.

Forcefully inserting oil fill devices or funnels into the oil fill hole can damage the baffle.

Use care when adding engine oil. The baffle is easily deformed if force is applied. Example here shows 1) oil fill gun or nozzle; 2) valve cover; 3) oil fill baffle.
