This TSB involves reprogramming the PCM of the 2011 Jeep Compass equipped with the 2.0L or 2.4L engine and automatic transmission, with new software, removing fuse 33 from the Totally Integrated Power Train Module (TIPM) and resetting the PCM. This bulletin applies to vehicles built before Nov. 15, 2010.
The vehicle may experience an MIL illumination, with DTC U0121 (lost communication with anti-lock brake system control module) or U0114 (lost communication with final drive control module, present or stored in the transmission control module (TCM).
Using a scan tool (wiTECH) with the appropriate diagnostic procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify that all engine and transmission systems are functioning as designed. If DTCs are present other than the ones listed here, record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin.
NOTE: The wiTECH software level must be at release 11.03 or higher to perform this procedure.
Install a battery charger to ensure that battery voltage does not drop below 13.2 volts. Do not allow the charging voltage to climb above 13.5 volts during the flash process.
a. Clear any DTCs that may have been set in other modules due to reprogramming. The wiTECH application will automatically present all DTCs after the flash and allow the tech to clear them.
