In cold climates a MIL with stored DTCs P0123 or P0222 and the ETC light illumination may be found. This bulletin involves replacing the electronic throttle body and clean air air duct. This TSB applies to 2007 Cherokee and Liberty, 2007-2009 Nitro and 2008-2009 Liberty and Cherokee models equipped with a 3.7L engine built before Feb. 20, 2009 (MDH 0220XX).
Customers may experience a MIL illumination or the ECT light illuminated at temperatures below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Further investigation may find that DTC P0123 (throttle position sensor 1 circuit high) or P0222 (throttle position sensor 2 circuit low) are active or stored.
Using a scan tool (StarSCAN) with the appropriate diagnostic procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify that all engine systems are functioning as designed. If DTCs other than the ones listed here are present, record and repair as necessary before proceeding further.
If the above condition is present when temperatures are below 32 degrees F and no other DTCs are present, perform the repair procedure.
Replace the throttle body with P/N 04861661AB and the clean air duct P/N 53013907AB. Follow the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT. Refer to Group 14 – Fuel Systems>Fuel Injection-Gas>Throttle Body Removal and Installation Procedures.
Perform the ETC relearn procedure after replacing the throttle body. Be sure to erase any DTCs that may have been set.
