The beauty of tools

One of the few things on this planet that is sure to always catch my eye is a clean, well organized selection of professional tools. A tidy tool drawer is one of those things that I can stare at and appreciate, much like a normal person might drool over a photo of a Victoria Secret ad (hey, nobody ever accused me of being normal).

A drawer of specialty tools, all laid out in their clean and sparkling splendor, always gives me that warm fuzzy feeling, eliciting the type of emotional response that only another tech could possibly understand.

Our tools of the trade are not only necessities, without which we couldn’t open the shop doors, they’re our buddies... our cohorts that work with us on a daily basis. They’re muses to our skills, ambitions and ongoing goals to do the best that we can on every job. They deserve to be treated with respect.

I’m certain that these comments might seem silly, ridiculous and possibly even idiotic to some, but I really don’t care, because I’m also certain that there are those among us who feel the same way.

Our tools take care of us, and we need to take care of them.

Let’s all empty our chests and drawers once in a while, when downtime permits, and clean and re-organize our hand, power and specialty tools. Keeping them clean and easy to find saves time and money in the long haul.

And besides, when a set of quality combo wrenches are laid out in ascending or descending order, it’s a sight that can warm the cockles of any die-hard tech.   ●
