GM temp DTC

This bulletin applies to 2006-2007 Chevy Cobalt and HRR, 2007 Pontiac G5 and 2006-2007 Saturn ION vehicles, all equipped with 2.2L or 2.4L engines. This bulletin provides information on the use of the correct engine coolant heater cord to avoid setting DTC P0116.

The OBD II diagnostics require a thermostatically controlled engine coolant heater cord that disables the coolant heater above a threshold temperature of approximately 0 degrees Fahrenheit. Using a non-thermostatically controlled engine coolant heater cord above this threshold temperature may generate DTC P0116. If a vehicle is found to have this DTC set, the technician should verify that the correct engine coolant heater cord is installed. The thermostatically and non-thermostatically heater cords are physically interchangeable.
