This TSB applies to 2012 Ram 3500 Cab Chassis, 2500 and 1500 pickup models. A MIL on may be accompanied by DTC P0441 (EVAP purge system performance). The transmission temperature light and/or transmission cooler may be frozen. This condition typically occurs when temperatures are below -10 degrees Fahrenheit, on vehicles equipped with the 6-speed automatic transmissions.
The technician may also find that P0218 is stored (transmission high temperature operation activation).
Upgrading the software (reflashing) will correct the condition.
Using a scan tool (wiTECH) with the appropriate diagnostic procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify that no other DTCs are present. If other DTC are found, record and repair as needed before proceeding.
Install a battery charger and make sure that battery voltage does not drop below 13.2 volts or exceed 13.5 volts during the flash process.
1. Reprogram the DTCM with the latest software.
2. Following PCM reprogramming, clear any DTCs that may have been set in other modules.
3. Place an updated authorized modification label near the VECI label.
