This bulletin applies to 2010 BMW 328i vehicles. The ribbon cable leading to the heating and air conditioning controls at the control unit for the center console control panel (SZM) may be defective.
This fault occurs with particular frequency in components produced between September 2009 and February 2010. According to BMW, these components were installed in vehicles manufactured up to production dates around June 2010.
Possible faults include the seat heater being activated and deactivated automatically (this fault can also occur when the buttons for the seat heating are integrated within the heating and air conditioning controls); park distance control (PDC) is activated automatically while the vehicle is stationary. Also, The soft top cannot be operated from time to time, or the soft top remains stationary during movement, even with the button depressed.
1. Remove the heating and air conditioning controls. Do not disconnect the plug connections on the control panel.
2. Move the ribbon cable and check if one of the above-mentioned faults occurs.
3. If a fault does occur, it will be necessary to replace the center console control panel SZM.
