Power Liftgate Woes

This bulletin applies to Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles equipped with power liftgate (sales code JRC) made between March 1, 2010, and March 1, 2012. The customer may experience the power liftgate not opening and closing under power.

Upon further investigation the technician may find that B1882 power liftgate position sensor1 circuit set. Updating the software will correct the conditions listed above.

If the customer describes this symptom/condition or if the technician finds the DTC, perform the repair procedure.


NOTE: Install a battery charger to ensure battery voltage does not drop below 13.2 volts. Do not allow the charging voltage to limb above 13.5 volts during the flash process. NOTE: If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be restarted.

1.Use the wiTECH Diagnostic Application to reflash the PowerLiftgate Module. Help using the wiTECH Diagnostic Application for flashing the PowerLiftgate Module is made available through the wiTECH Diagnostic Application. For instructions select the “HELP ” tab on upper portion of the wiTECH window, then “HELPCONTENTS.” This will open the Welcome to wiTECH Help screen where help topics can be selected.

2. After the flash has been performed, turn the ignition switch off. NOTE: This will allow the active codes to become stored.

3.Turn ignition switch on.

4.Clear any DTC's that may have been set in all modules due to reprogramming. The wiTECH application will automatically present all DTCs after the flash and allow the tech to clear them.
