Frozen Treat

Some 2008 Mazda Tribute vehicles may exhibit engine oil leaking from the dipstick tube or the front or rear crankshaft seals. The condition is likely due to positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) freezing when ambient temperature is below -20 degrees Fahrenheit, allowing engine crankcase pressure to build up.

A cure for operation in seriously freezing conditions involves the installation of an electrically heated PCV kit. The kit is available from Mazda as P/N ZZC2-13-890.

Seriously, if it’s that cold, just stay indoors.
