Out of Focus

Some 2008-2011 Ford Focus vehicles may exhibit a whine, howl or groan noise from an intermediate shaft bearing with the vehicle in motion. This may be due to moisture getting past the bearing seals.

  1. Determine the condition of the intermediate shaft bearing by rotating the shaft by hand. If the shaft bearing shows any signs of roughness, wear or seal damage, replace the intermediate shaft bearing. When separating the center shaft from the outer shaft, do not remove both clamps. Remove and discard only the large inner boot clamp.
