Reprogram for the MIL

Some 2012 Ford Explorers equipped with a 2.0L GTDI (gasoline turbocharged direct injection) engine and built on or before 8-17-2011 may exhibit a MIL on with DTC P1289 (cylinder head temperature sensor circuit high) and/or P1290 (cylinder head temperature sensor circuit low) stored in the PCM memory.

1. Reprogram the PCM and TCM to the latest calibration using IDS release 74.05 and higher or 75.01 or higher. Calibration files are available at www.motorcraft.com.

2. Follow workshop manual section 307-01 General Procedures and perform Solenoid Body Strategy Drive Cycle.

Advise the customer that the vehicle is equipped with an adaptive transmission shift strategy which allows the vehicle’s computer to learn the transmission’s unique parameters and improve shift quality. When the adaptive strategy is reset, the computer will begin a re-learning process that may result in firmer than normal shifts for several days.
