Mazda Mystery Stall

Some 2009-2010 Mazda CX-9 vehicles may experience an engine stall. This applies to vehicles produced from May 1, 2009, to July 31, 2009. The engine will restart and no DTC may be stored. This may be caused by an open circuit in the injector wiring harness and/or a short circuit to the CKP (crankshaft position sensor) wire shielding near connector 0140-16.

Start the engine. Wiggle or gently tug on the injector wiring harness at the CKP connector 0140-16. If the engine stalls, replace the injector wiring harness, P/N TF01-67-080A.

If the engine did not stall, turn the engine off.

Use an ohmmeter to monitor the resistance value at connector C-35 pins (engine side) while wiggling or gently tugging on the wiring harness about 10 inches back from the CKP connector –140-16. Test at pins T (G/BR) and P (Y/V), pins T (G/BR) and 2AR (B), and pins P (Y/V) and 2AR (B).

If the resistance valve changes while wiggling or gently tugging on the wiring harness, replace the injector wiring harness. If the value does not change, continue with normal diagnostics.

Note the location of the CKP and the C-35 pins.
