Lame Liftgate

An owner of a 2010-2013 Chevy Equinox or GMC Terrain may complain about a power liftgate that does not stay fully open or drifts down a few inches before coming to a rest.

This may be caused by the incorrect strut mounting brackets installed on the vehicle. Check on the liftgate mounting brackets for a letter P or M stamping. P indicates that the bracket is for a power liftgate system and M indicates that the bracket is for a manual liftgate. If manual strut brackets are found on a vehicle that is equipped with a power system, replace with the correct brackets.

Look for a stamped letter on the liftgate strut brackets. If the vehicle is equipped with a power system, and brackets are stamped with the letter “M”, replace the brackets with the part numbers provided here.
