Jacques Gordon -- Technical Writer
Jacques Gordon is one of the most recognized technical writers in the automotive aftermarket. His articles and columns have won several publishing and automotive industry awards, and many have been reprinted for automotive and non-automotive publications and for use by technical trainers. He has also been the keynote speaker at industry gatherings and tech schools.
Jacques has worked in the automotive industry for over 40 years, as a mechanic, lab technician, technical writer and trainer. His technical background includes ten years as a mechanic working in flat-rate dealerships and independent repair shops, specializing in European imports. He also worked for ten years as a lab technician, testing head gaskets in the dynamometer lab at Fel Pro, diesel fuel injection systems at Robert Bosch, and automotive and diesel emission control systems at Johnson-Matthey.
His editorial career began with writing service manuals at Chilton Book Company, and that led directly to a ten-year term as the Technical Editor of Motor Age magazine. In addition to being mentored by some of the best journalists in aftermarket publishing, that position also allowed him to develop contacts in almost all segments of the OEM and automotive aftermarket industries, including technicians, shop owners, trainers, engineers, corporate officers and government officials. This experience served him well when he moved on to other staff and regular contributor positions at PTEN Magazine, MACS ACtion magazine, TurboDiesel Register and other non-automotive publications.
As a trainer, Jacques made presentations on basic diagnostic skills at Universal Technical Institute. He also assisted Craig Van Batenburg in training experienced technicians on hybrid vehicle service at the Automotive Career Development Center. This led to training first responders about hybrid vehicle systems. Later he wrote training material about fuel systems for non-technical (sales) people. Jacques has also participated in ASE test writing workshops and currently holds ASE Master Technician and L1 certifications.
Today Jacques continues working as a regular contributor to Automotive Service Professional and Modern Tire Dealer.
