This bulletin applies to certain 2016-2017 KIA Optima and multiple 2017 models including Sorento, Sedona, Sportage and Forte, equipped with a front-wheel-drive 6-speed transmission. Concerns involve the inhibitor switch not allowing the correct gear position signal to be sent to various control units.
Symptoms can include the MIL on with DTC P0705 (transmission range sensor circuit malfunction), CAN-related DTCs (for hybrids, CAN DTC C2243), intermittent no-crank/no-start, erratic or harsh shifting, EPB and Hold lights illuminating intermittently, and Key Off indicated after placing the selector lever into the “P” position and depressing the start/stop button. When this condition occurs, the “P” position is not indicated on the instrument cluster.
If the problem occurs, replace the inhibitor switch. Refer to the “Automatic Transaxle System – Automatic Transaxle Control System – Inhibitor switch – repair procedures in the applicable shop manual.
Clear any DTCs and confirm proper operation. The new inhibitor switch is available as P/N 42700 3B700QQK.
