Owners of 2011-2012 Chrysler 200 or Avenger vehicles (equipped with a 2.4L engine and automatic transmission, built before July 21, 2012) may experience a MIL on.
Upon investigation, the technician may find that P2173 (high airflow/vacuum leak detected, slow accumulation) has been set active or stored. The condition happens after descending a long grade. The customer also may experience shifting concerns (with vehicles equipped with the 6-speed automatic transmission):
- 3rd to 2nd downshift clunk
- 4th to 3rd downshift clunk
- 1st to 2nd upshift clunk
- 4th to 5th upshift clunk
- 5th to 6th upshift clunk
- rpm fluctuating or jerking feeling between 60 mph to 70 mph while operating in cruise control (4-speed and 6-speed transmissions)
Using a scan tool (wiTECH) with the appropriate diagnostic procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify that all engine systems are functioning as designed. If DTCs other than the one listed here are present, record them and repair as necessary before proceeding further.
Install a battery charger to ensure that battery voltage does not drop below 13.2 volts. Do not allow charging to climb above 13.5 volts during the flash process.
- Reprogram the PCM with the latest software. Follow the detailed procedures available in DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT. Refer to Group 8 – Electrical > Electronic Control Modules – Service Information > Module – Powertrain Control > Standard Procedures > PCM/ECM Programming.
- After PCM reprogramming, clear any DTCs that may have been set in other modules due to reprogramming. The wiTECH application will automatically present all DTCs after the flash and will allow the technician to clear them.
- Type the necessary information on an authorized modifications label (P/N 04275086AD) and attach it near the VECI label.
