Bad Wire Kills the Ford

Some 2012-2014 Ford Edge vehicles equipped with a 2.0L GTDI (gasoline turbocharged direct injection) engine may exhibit a difficult to start, rough running, crank/no start, lack of power, loss of idle rpm or hesitation. DTCs may include P0106, P0236 or a repeat P0128. These conditions may be caused by a wiring concern in the signal return splice.

1. Using IDS (integrated diagnostic system), check for DTCs.

2. Is only P0128 stored? If no, proceed to Step 4. If yes, proceed to Step 3.

3. Is the coolant level full? If no, fill the cooling system using the vacuum cooling system filling procedure (work manual section 303-03). Then proceed to Step 4.

4. Replace the signal return splice with 5 inches of 0.75 mm (18 AWG) wire using the crimp method. Backfill the crimp with solder before sealing the repair with heat shrink tube.
