Squeaky Buick

Owners of 2008-2012 Buick Enclave vehicles may comment about a squeak or rattle noise from the steering column area.

Upon examination, the technician may find the noise coming from the steering column I-shaft grommet. This condition may be caused by incorrect alignment of the pass-through grommet located on the steering column I-shaft.

Due to the shape of the hole in the dash, the grommet must be aligned properly. The alignment arrow on the rubber grommet should align with the line on the dash mat. This can be seen from inside the vehicle, directly behind the brake pedal.

If the grommet is not aligned, remove the instrument panel insulator panel and rotate the rubber grommet by hand until the arrow and line match. Reinstall the insulator panel.

Note that the arrow on the grommet (1) does not align with the line on the mat (2).
