Knock, Knock

This bulletin applies to 2013-2017 Subaru Crosstrek vehicles, starting with VIN HH238540. The engine knock sensor has been redesigned to help improve assembly line efficiency and increase durability.

In some cases, the check engine light may illuminate and a knock sensor DTC set in the ECM memory (P0327, P0328, P0332 and P0333). The knock sensor for DIT engines is now utilized for naturally aspirated engines to improve durability and resistance to heat.

The part number for the new knock sensor on Japan-built vehicles is 22060AA180. The part number for U.S.-built vehicles is 22060AA18A.

If any of the previously listed DTCs are stored, diagnose as per the service manual. The installation torque specification for the knock sensor remains at 17.7 ft.-lbs. (24 Nm). Do not use anti-seize compound on the sensor retaining bolt threads.
