Bad Nuts

Some 2017 Cadillac Escalade vehicles (in addition to Chevy Suburban and Tahoe and GMC Yukon) may have been assembled with the wrong fasteners retaining the brake master cylinder to the brake vacuum booster.

If this condition is present, it may not be noticed until mileage accumulates. The fasteners may gradually loosen, resulting in brake pedal performance that is noisy, long in travel and spongy.

Progressively longer stopping distances may also be experienced and eventually a driver information center (DIC) message of “Service Brake Assist” will appear.

The correction involves replacing both of the brake master cylinder nuts with P/N 11517996. Tighten the new nuts to 24 ft.-lbs.

Replace both master cylinder retaining nuts and torque to 24 ft.-lbs.
