Hot LT Engine

This bulletin applies to 2016-2019 Cadillac CTS-V and 2015-2019 Escalade vehicles equipped with a 6.2L LT4 or L86 engine. A vehicle may have a concern of the engine running hot and/or has a tick noise from the thermostat.

Inspect the position of the cylinder head gasket locating tabs to determine if the gasket(s) have been possibly installed backwards. The gasket tabs on both banks should be closer to the front of the engine, near cylinders 3 and 4.

If the tabs are closer to cylinders 5 or 6, the head gaskets were installed incorrectly, restricting coolant flow. The head(s) must be removed, cleaned and reinstalled with new gaskets, properly positioned.

The head gasket locating tabs for both cylinder banks should be located toward the front of the engine. This example shows the left side gasket locating tab (1) positioned near cylinder 3. The red-circled 3 indicates engine front.

This view of the right bank shows the gasket locating tab (2) near cylinder 4. The red 3 indicates engine front. Both examples shown here are correct. If the locating tabs are near the rear of the engine, the gasket(s) have been installed backwards.
