This bulletin applies to 2009 BMW X5 vehicles equipped with the 4.8L M57Y diesel engine produced from 1-22-2008 to 4-31-2011. The MIL may be on, with DTC 4C52 stored (charging air temperature sensor, plausibility). This indicates that the charge air temperature sensor has failed.
In order to determine whether a specific vehicle has already had this service action completed, first check the B-pillar label for code number 600. If code 600 has been punched out, the action has already been performed. If code 600 has not been punched out, it will be necessary to utilize the “Service Menu” of DCSnet (Dealer Communication System) or the Key reader.
