This bulletin applies to 2015 BMW 3 Series. When driving in high ambient temperatures, repeated stop and go or high-load operation over distances, the engine performance can be reduced. The air conditioning system blower output may also be reduced and in some cases, the compressor may be switched off. One or both of the following DTCs may be stored in the DME:

  • 1A2108 (electric fan, self diagnosis, interval stage 1: minor fan fault)
  • 241400 (electric fan, diagnosis feedback 1: fan slightly stiff)

The MIL may be on as well.

A DME software error in the control of the 600W electric fan over-boot or high speed function. The electric cooling fan design was not robust enough for continuous over-boost or high speed operation. Replace the fan housing with an improved 600W electric fan. Program the vehicle using the latest version of ISTA/P.  For F3x rear drive applications, use P/N 17 42 8 641 964. For F3 x Drive, use P/N 17 42 8 641 965.
