Honda clunking noises

Order Reprints

Honda notes that a clunking, popping or clicking noise during slow speed right or left turns on the 2008 Civic is likely due to improperly torqued steering gearbox mounting bolts. With the vehicle raised, loosen all six steering gearbox mounting bolts several turns, then tighten the stiffener plate bolts to a value of 43 ft.-lbs. (59 N-m). Next, tighten the rack saddle clamp bolts to a value of 28 ft.-lbs. (38 N-m). NOTE: First tighten all bolts to roughly half the final value, followed by full value.
