Dana says there has been a considerable uptick in VIO for popular packaging delivery platforms like the Ford Transit, and Mercedes Sprinter.
This localized delivery trend – typified by real-time commerce, expedited delivery cycles and direct-to-customer package and food delivery – is known as “last mile delivery.”
This trend is driving significant growth in light and medium-duty vehicle platforms like the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Ford Transit and Nissan NV. The light/medium duty classification of last mile delivery vehicles opens the door for owner operators and non-CDL drivers to get into localized package delivery. This, in turn, creates a new opportunity for repair shop owners to build their businesses, as service patterns shift away from large fleet repair contracts.
Dana has launched both engine gaskets and driveshaft options for the Sprinter.
“We think continued trend in last mile delivery will support increased Sprinter builds. The local delivery use of these vehicles will drive local service demand that installers can leverage to their benefit as service patterns shift from national fleet contracts to local owner operator contractors to companies like Amazon,” says Beth Mooney, senior marketing manager.
