Noisy Mopar Rear

This bulletin applies to 2015-2017 Dodge Challenger and Charger vehicles equipped with an Anti-Spin Differential Rear Axle. The customer may complain about an axle groan/moan/rubbing/thumping/shudder noise during tight parking lot maneuvers.

Diagnosis of the issue involves performing sharp turning maneuvers (full steering lock one way, then opposite steering lock), low speed turns at equal to or less than 10 mph.

If the noise is detected, raise and support the vehicle. Follow standard axle fluid drain and re-fill service procedures as outlined in TechCONNECT.  Lower the vehicle and test drive.

Inform the customer that it is necessary to drive the vehicle approximately 100 to 150 miles to allow the fluid to fully penetrate the clutches in the rear differential.
