Oil Killed the Generator

This bulletin applies to 2010-2013 Buick LaCrosse and Enclave vehicles. A customer may comment that the charging system light is illuminated and/or the service battery charging system message is displayed.

When performing the charging system test, the technician may observe that the charging system voltage is less than the specified range of 12.6-15.0 volts and/or the charging system may not have any output.

The condition may be caused by engine oil previously being spilled onto the generator, which is directly below the engine oil fill cap.  Care must be taken to prevent any oil from spilling onto the generator whenever adding oil to the engine.
