Kia Hybrid Recall

This bulletin applies to Kia Optima 2.0L hybrid models built between August 2016 and September 2017. Certain 2017-2018 Kia Optima hybrid vehicles have been recalled due to a potential issue with the voltage protection device (VPD) that is designed to protect the high voltage battery module.

The VPD may activate inadvertently. If the VPD activates while driving in the electric vehicle (EV) mode, there may be a loss of power.

Two newly designed battery management systems (BMS) will be installed in place of the VPD.
