This TSB applies to 2011 Ram trucks, including 3500 Cab Chassis, 2500 and 1500 models, equipped with a 3.7L, 4.7L or 5.7L engine and 545RFE or 42RLE transmission, built before Feb. 1, 2011.
DTCs may be set, including:
* P2096 (downstream fuel trim system 1 lean…5.7L)
* P2097 (downstream fuel trim system 1 rich….5.7L)
* P2098 (downstream fuel trim system 2 lean….5.7L)
* P2099 (downstream fuel trim system 2 rich….5.7L)
The engine seems to lack power at high engine rpm (5.7L and 4.7L engines). There is a shudder or shake condition at wide open throttle stab during downshift event (5.7L and 4.7L engines).
High engine rpm may be needed before the transmission will shift from 3rd to 4th gear. A harsh 1st to 2nd gear upshift and an unexpected or busy downshift while coasting between 45 - 48 mph may be experienced (5.7L only).
Using a scan tool (wiTECH) with the appropriate diagnostic procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify that no additional DTCs are set. If DTCs are present other than the ones listed above, record them and repair as needed before proceeding further.
Install a battery charger to ensure that battery voltage does not drop below 13.2 volts. Do not allow charging voltage to climb above 13.5 volts during the flash process.
1. Reprogram the TCM with the latest software. Help using the wiTECH diagnostic application for flashing an ECU is available by selecting “Help” then “Help Contents” at the top of the wiTECH diagnostic application window. After TCM reprogramming, the following must be performed:
a. Clear any DTCs that may have set in other modules due to reprogramming. The wiTECH application will automatically present all DTCs after the flash and allow the tech to clear them.
2. Type the necessary information on the Authorized Modification Label and attach it near the VECI label.
