Ford Focus ignition profile

Some 2006-2007 Ford Focus vehicles (and 2007 Escape) equipped with the 2.3L engine and MTX-75 manual transaxle may exhibit an intermittent MIL-on or flashing with multiple misfire DTCs P0316, P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303 or P0304 present in the PCM with or without drivability problems. This concern may be due to the PCM ignition profile being set incorrectly.

  1. Reprogram the PCM to the latest calibration using IDS release B43.16 and higher or B44.8 and higher. Calibration files may be obtained at www.motorcraft.com
  2. Set the PCM ignition profile by driving the vehicle and performing three consecutive decelerations from 60 to 40 mph without applying the brakes.
  3. If P0316, P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303 or P0304 DTCs reoccur after reprogramming the PCM and setting the PCM ignition profile, then refer to the Powertrain Controls/Emissions Diagnosis manual for diagnostics.
