Cracked turbo

Some turbo-equipped vehicles such as the 2007-2009 Pontiac Solstice GXP have been observed with turbocharger housing cracks in the inlet flange partition wall.

Vehicles diagnosed with various driveability concerns or turbocharged DTCs P0299 or P0234 are revealing these cracks. Turbochargers are being replaced based on the discovery of these cracks.

According to GM, it is not necessary to replace the turbocharger assembly based on these cracks. GM notes that these cracks are not uncommon and are considered a normal condition and should not be a reason for replacing the turbo assembly. GM says that these cracks will not affect performance.

If the vehicle exhibits driveability concerns or DTCs P0299 or P0234, refer to the service manual and follow the established diagnostics for correction. In addition to the Pontiac Solstice GXP, other affected vehicles include 2008-2009 Chevy Cobalt SS and HHR SS, 2007-2009 Saturn SKY Redline, 2007-2009 Opel GT and 2007-2009 Daewoo G2X (all equipped with the RPO LNF engine).
