Honda long in the tooth

Honda notes that high-mileage Insight models may appear raised-up after being lowered from a frame lift, with a rock-hard suspension.

According to Honda, this is the result of a wear issue in the dampers. After years of high-temperature exposure, the polyurethane cushion inside the damper gets old and brittle. Raising the vehicle causes the damper piston to crush the brittle cushion against the top of the damper. Lowering the vehicle then causes bits and pieces of the cushion to plug the damper piston valves and openings, locking the damper in an extended position.

The solution is to replace all four dampers.
