Kia cable swap

Kia has introduced an updated main cable for the Break out Box (BoB). The new cable is replacing and superceding the original BoB main cable. The new BoB cable is gray in color (the old cable was black).

The new BoB main cable is designed to enhance diagnostics on newer vehicle models that are equipped with variable reluctance type sensors (for example, crankshaft position sensors on 2007 and later Optima and Spectra models, and on all model years of the Kia Borrego). The new cable also supports prior models and model years.

During use of the older (black) BoB cable, Kia has found erroneous voltages causing unusual symptoms and diagnostic readings. In addition, under certain laboratory conditions, the use of the older BoB cable has shown that the crankshaft may be “bumped” over during its use. While this has not been seen in real world conditions, technicians should still exercise care in the use of the older BoB main cable. KIA requests that the old black BoB main cable be returned to Snap-on Equipment Solutions by the supplied prepaid UPS shipping envelope supplied with the new cable. The new cable is available as P/N oK2A1200MAN-B.
