Mazda: It Might Just be the Air FIlter

This bulletin applies to Mazda Tribute, model years 2001-2005. When diagnosing drivability or fuel/emissions-related DTCs, inspect the engine air filter and air inlet system carefully. Symptoms may include rough/low/erratic idle, engine stalling or hesitation, or the engine warning light not turning off.

A damaged or mis-installed air filter element can cause a variety of hard-to-diagnose drivability concerns. Also, check the air inlet ducts for obstructions and debris and inspect the MAF for possible damage or contamination.
