Hocus Pocus Focus

Some 2013-2014 Ford Focus ST vehicles may exhibit a difficult-to-start, rough running, crank-no-start, lack of power, loss of idle rpm or hesitation concerns, along with DTC P0106 and/or P0236. These conditions may be caused by a wiring concern in signal return splices.

1. Using IDS, check for DTCs. If the afore-noted DTCs are present, proceed to the next step.

2. Replace signal return splice with 0.75 mm (18 AWG) wire using the crimp method. Affected splice numbers are S132 and S133. Refer to the wiring diagram in the service manual, section 5-1.

  a. Remove the engine appearance cover.

  b. Remove the air cleaner tube from the housing.

  c. Disconnect the tube for the engine sound symposer at the intake manifold.

  d. Position and secure the upper radiator hose aside using mechanics wire or equivalent.

  e. To increase access to the wire harness, release the support clip from the harness to coolant inlet valve hose.

  f. Remove enough harness wrap to locate and replace the splices.

  g. Backfill the crimp with solder before sealing the repair with heat shrink tube.
