Freezing Ram

This bulletin applies to 2010-2012 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 pickups and 3500/4500/5500 cab chassis vehicles. DTC P0471 may be set in temperatures below freezing.

The repair involves installing an insulated EMP (exhaust manifold pressure) sensor tube and insulation over the EMP sensor along with a new EMP sensor.

During the normal combustion process, condensation can form in the EMP sensor tube. This condensation may contact the EMP sensor pressure sensing element, which may freeze.  As the moisture freezes and expands, it could cause the pressure sensing element to crack, causing sensor damage and setting the DTC. The MIL will illuminate after the fault becomes active.

Install the EMP sensor insulating kit P/N 68175216AA and a new EMP sensor P/N 68002442AA. Connect the diagnostic scan tool and erase the DTC. Then start the engine while monitoring the tool to ensure that the DTC does not return.
