Mazda: Rattle, rattle

Some 2010-2012 Mazda3 vehicles (except Mazdaspeed3) may exhibit a rattle noise from the rear stabilizer when driving over a road bump. The noise may be caused by a loose rear stabilizer control link.

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. Verify that the rear stabilizer control link nut torque is at maximum specification (44.8 ft.-lbs).
  3. If loose, replace with new nuts. After removing the nuts, inspect the threads of the bolts. If wear exists, replace the control link. A new style locking nut is now recommended, available as part number 9YB0-41-031. The new style nut features two identification dots, and the torque specification with the new style nut has changed to 33-2 – 40.6 ft.-lbs.
