Dirty Solenoid Dilemma

Some 2010-2011 Mazda Tribute vehicles equipped with a 2.5L engine may exhibit DTCs P0016 (crankshaft position – camshaft position correlation – Bank 1 Sensor A), P052A (cold start camshaft position timing over-advanced – Bank 1) and P052B (cold start camshaft position timing over-retarded – Bank 1). This may be accompanied by hard-start and/or rough idle concerns.

This may be due to debris that temporarily restricted the movement of the variable camshaft timing (VCT) solenoid.

Clear the DTCs.Did the DTCs return? If no, no further repair should be required. If yes, refer to MS3 online or workshop manual section 01-01 Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) Malfunction.
