Ram Is Too Cool

This bulletin applies to 2012 Dodge Ram 2500 trucks equipped with a 5.7L engine and 4-speed 42RLE or 6-speed 65RFE or 66RFE automatic transmission.

A MIL illumination for DTC P0441 (EVAP purge system performance) may be present. The transmission temperature light and/or transmission cooler may have frozen up. This condition typically occurs when temperatures are below –10 degrees Fahrenheit.

The technician may also find DTC P0218 (transmission high temperature operation activated) has been set, active or stored on a 6-speed transmission only.

Updating the software will correct this condition.

Using a scan tool (wiTECH) with the appropriate diagnostic procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify that no other DTCs are set. If other DTCs are present, record and repair as needed before proceeding.

Install a battery charger to ensure that battery voltage does not drop below 13.2 volts or rise above 13.5 volts during the flash process.

Reprogram the DTCM with the latest software. Type the necessary information on an authorized modification label and attach the label near the VECI label.

Estimated labor time is 0.2 hours.
