Mazda Has Issues After Body Repair

Order Reprints

This bulletin applies to 2016-2019 Mazda CX-3, 2013-2019 CX-5, 2016-2019 Mazda2, 2014-2018 Mazda3 and 2014-2019 Mazda6 vehicles. Following body shop repairs, customers may experience one or more electrical malfunctions.

The newly painted fender stay may be causing a poor front harness ground connection. Issues may involve such faults as headlights flashing, check engine light on, no heater blower operation, engine stall, ignition can’t be turned off, wipers turning on by themselves, no DTCs stored, etc.

Inspect the right front fender stay. If painted, sand off paint at the ground point. After installing the ground bolt, apply touch-up paint to any exposed surfaces.

Caution: If the bolt contact area is painted when the front fender stay is newly replaced, it could cause a malfunction in the PCM. Before painting a newly replaced part, protect the bolt and contact area with masking tape. Always replace the ground bolt.
