Note locations of (A) point of contact between the pedal (B);  the pedal position switch (C) and the starter interlock switch (D).

Some 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata vehicles may exhibit a grind noise from around the clutch pedal when depressing it all the way down. This is caused by a stick-slip noise occurring at the contact point between the clutch pedal and the clutch pedal position switch plunger and/or the clutch pedal and the starter interlock switch plunger. To prevent the stick-slip noise, two pieces of silicone pad may be attached to the clutch pedal where the two switches contact.

Installation locations of the silicone pads between the pedal and switches (A) pedal position switch; (B) starter interlock switch.

Remove the clutch pedal position switch and the starter interlock switch. Degrease the surfaces of the clutch pedal where the silicone pads will be applied. Peel off the protective foil and apply a silicone pad to the clutch pedal on the clutch pedal position switch side. Apply a pad to the clutch pedal starter interlock switch side. Install a new clutch pedal position switch and new starter interlock switch and verify the repair.
